Choice-Based Art Project
FINAL PRODUCT:
I chose to channel my inner Bob Ross in order to imitate his style for this mountain/river landscape scene stemming from my imagination. I strove to mimic his painting styles with acrylic, as oil (which he typically uses) was not an option for me, due to its toxicity. It was inspired by the scenery at Animas Forks, CO above Silverton, CO. I am drawn to the stillness and absence of human interference that accompanies the San Juan Mountains at timberline.

REFLECTION:
I really like how realistic I was able to get with my piece. I was hesitant to begin working with oil pastels, as I have never had much luck with them. They are typically difficult to blend with and go into detail with. And, in my opinion, they always make the drawing look semi-childish. However, this time, I was able to use a blender to create a smooth flow between colors and create realistic highlights and shadows. My biggest challenges was making the mouth/lips look realistic. I redid this area many times and I still feel like I didn't get it quite right. Next time, I would do something different with the background, making it less attention-grabbing. I feel like it competes with the subject of the portrait. Overall, I am proud of the piece I produced.
